Gypsum
Gypsum (CaSO4 ⋅ H2O) as a glass batch material is one of the important minor constituents and
a major source of sulfate in the batch. The function of the sulfate in the batch is to provide SO2 gas as a fining agent
by decomposition at the proper time in the melt and to provide O2 as an oxidizing agent.
